TIRANA, April 17 /ATA/ The Albanian opposition staged its seventh national protest today, gathering on “Martyrs of the Nation” boulevard in front of the government building.
The Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha, accompanied by MPs and supporters, marched from the blue headquarters to the boulevard to join the protest.
Unlike earlier demonstrations, speeches by Democratic Party and allied leaders are back in this protest.
Besart Xhaferri, Democratic Party MP and head of its Youth Forum, opened the speeches on the podium outside the Prime Minister’s Office
Xhaferri said that the country has a carefully curated facade designed to disguise the decay.
DP MP accuses the government of looting public funds via ‘abusive concessions’ to a select group of cronies, forcing the youth to choose between submission or leaving the country. He positioned the opposition as the sole alternative to restore the nation’s European integration.
To maintain public order and safety, the Tirana Police has implemented a comprehensive security plan involving temporary traffic restrictions on major city arteries and the deployment of approximately 1,500 officers. /m.q/p.s./
