PM Rama: New agriculture support approach promotes farmer cooperation

TIRANA, April 11 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Saturday outlined a new approach to agricultural support aimed at encouraging cooperation among farmers, during a meeting in Krutje, Lushnje Municipality.

Speaking with local farmers, Rama discussed increased investment in agriculture, new fiscal incentives and reforms under the national support scheme, designed to help the sector meet European Union standards.

He said that while funding levels are important, they are not sufficient on their own, stressing the need for a shared understanding among those who rely on agriculture for their livelihoods.

“The key challenge today is not a lack of financing, but a clear understanding of the steps needed to secure sustainable development,” Rama said.

He noted that the sector has long faced resistance to collaboration among farmers, but argued that cooperation delivers tangible economic benefits.

“By joining forces, each farmer can gain up to 30% more. Individually they own their land, but together in the market they create scale, strengthen price negotiation power, ensure guarantees and build stability,” he said.

Rama added that the government’s new support model is designed to incentivize such cooperation, backing farmers who seek to expand and strengthen their operations, including through processing activities and concrete investment projects.
