Lamallari highlights progressive pay rises for State Police officers

TIRANA, April 9  /ATA/ The Minister of the Interior, Besfort Lamallari, met on Thursday with students and cadets of the Security Academy to discuss remuneration, professional development, and institutional support for this key security body. During the meeting, Minister Lamallari highlighted the progressive pay increases for State Police personnel, particularly at the junior ranks, describing the rise as unprecedented compared with the previous system.

Minister of Interior Besfort Lamallari stated that since the current government took office, State Police salaries have increased progressively at all levels, with particularly significant rises in recent years. He emphasised that these improvements are not just statistical, but provide motivation for officers, greater security for their families, and improved service for citizens.

Using lower pay grades as an example, he noted that in 2014 a State Police inspector earned 44,500 lek, whereas today the same role receives 73,500 lek, a 65% increase. Similarly, a deputy commissioner’s salary has risen from 65,500 lek in 2018 to 88,000 lek, while a commissioner now earns 97,385 lek, up from 72,000 lek.

He emphasised that, although this improvement represents a more dignified remuneration compared with the past, it remains insufficient and requires the continuation of reforms and investment. In addition to the indexation of salaries, Lamallari highlighted that the provision of meals for State Police personnel has also been implemented—a legal obligation that had remained unfulfilled for many years—which now provides tangible support for every officer.

Minister Lamallari highlighted that the new generation of officers is climbing the ladder in a system that is changing and improving, offering greater dignity, motivation, and stability, and called on them to strengthen security and public trust.

He added that the Ministry of the Interior’s investments go beyond financial support, encompassing the enhancement of professional standing, the improvement of working conditions, and the deployment of modern technology to strengthen security services.
