TIRANA, March 18 /ATA/ The Democratic Party chairman Sali Berisha, speaking from Brussels where he is attending the 50th anniversary of the European People’s Party (EPP), stated that the political group fully supports the Democratic Party and Albania’s EU integration process, but emphasizes that support should be merit-based.
In a media statement, Berisha described the relationship between the Democratic Party (DP) and the European People’s Party (EPP) as excellent, highlighting that the EPP has adopted resolutions supporting the Albanian opposition and has criticized electoral processes in the country.
He emphasized that the EPP supports Albania’s integration into the European Union, but based on merit and in accordance with established standards, which are consistent with the opposition’s own demands.
“The relationship between the Democratic Party and the European People’s Party is excellent. Several resolutions have expressed full support for the Democratic Party and openly condemned the electoral sham and the regime of Edi Rama. The EPP fully supports Albania’s EU integration process, but one that is merit-based, also consistent with our demands,” Berisha said.
Berisha stated that Albania has lagged behind in the EU integration process, unlike other countries in the region.
