TIRANA, March 5 /ATA/ The Parliament engaged in a debate at the start of the plenary session regarding the reports on the Special Prosecution’s request for authorization to lift the immunity of MP Belinda Balluku.
The Chairman of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, stated that on February 23, the Council for Regulations and Mandates concluded the review of the Special Prosecution’s request against Corruption and Organized Crime, which seeks authorization to lift the immunity of MP Balluku.
According to Bardhi, in accordance with the prescribed deadlines, five members of the council have submitted the report for review during the plenary session, as no unified position was reached during the meeting.
He further emphasized that, under Article 118, paragraph 3 of the regulations, the Speaker of Parliament is obligated to include the report in the agenda of the first available plenary session.
“The report was submitted on Monday, and today’s session is the first scheduled. However, the review of this request is not included in the agenda presented, which runs counter to the parliamentary procedures,” stated Bardhi.
He added that the procedure is being delayed and, in his view, this is pushing the matter towards the three-month deadline, thereby hindering the prosecution’s investigations. /j.p/sm/
