Visitor numbers rise at Benja thermal baths in Permet

TIRANA, March 2 /ATA/ – The Benja thermal baths in southern Albania are drawing growing numbers of domestic and foreign visitors, amid a major upgrade aimed at transforming the site into a higher-standard tourism destination.

Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday shared images on social media from the Benja baths, located about 14 km from the town of Permet, near the point where the Vjosa river meets the Lengarica stream.

Rama said the site experienced a high influx of visitors over the weekend, with many choosing to spend time in nature and in the area’s thermal springs, which are currently undergoing a full-scale transformation.

The investment includes the construction of an organised parking area, cycling lanes, panoramic balconies overlooking the canyon, a redesigned entrance, public baths and a health centre, while seeking to preserve the site’s historical and environmental values.

Work is also under way on interior fittings, including the installation of stair railings and decorative wooden flooring near the pools, aimed at improving the site’s appearance in harmony with its natural surroundings.

The open-air springs are known for water temperatures ranging from 26 to 32 degrees Celsius.

In addition to the thermal baths, the area offers access to the dramatic Lengarica Canyon and the Kati Bridge, cultural heritage monuments that add to the site’s appeal.
