Albania enforces €10,000 cash limit: Declaration required at border

TIRANA, February 27/ATA/ All travelers entering or leaving Albania must declare to the Customs Administration if they are traveling with more than €10,000 in cash, valuables, or precious metals.

According to the General Directorate of Customs, this requirement ensures transparency while preventing money laundering and the illicit transport of valuables.

Failure to make the declaration at the Albanian border can result in heavy fines beginning from 20,000 lekë; while for higher amounts the fines increase proportionally, up to 50% of the undeclared value for amounts over 50,000 euros.

The Customs authorities emphasize that declaration is mandatory regardless of the mode of travel so that to avoid penalties or criminal prosecution. /a.f/p.s./
