Beja: Customs procedures will continue through Blat and Kakavija until Librazhd-Përrenjas road is fully normalized

TIRANA, Feb 24 /ATA/ Director General of Customs, Besmir Beja, stated that the General Directorate of Customs has prioritized managing the situation on the Librazhd-Përrenjas road to ensure that customs procedures continue without interruption.
According to Beja, until the road situation returns to normal, alternative border points have been designated for use.
Goods entering the territory from the Republic of North Macedonia or from other countries through it will pass through the Blat customs point, while goods entering from Greece or other countries through it will pass through Kakavija.
He indicated that all necessary measures have been put in place to address logistical needs and increase the customs personnel at the border branches in Blat and Kakavija, with the objective of managing the increased traffic flow and expediting customs procedures.

He further emphasized that the Customs Directorate has engaged in discussions with the relevant authorities in North Macedonia, securing full cooperation to effectively address the situation.
Specifically, he stated, the Macedonian authorities will facilitate the passage of loaded trucks or trailers from the Blat border point starting at 12:00 PM tomorrow, until 10:00 PM each day thereafter. Meanwhile, unloaded trucks will be permitted to circulate 24 hours a day.

He emphasized that trucks that have already entered the customs territory of the Republic of Albania, either cleared through customs or under the internal transit regime via the Qafë Thanë customs office, must exit through this office and re-enter via Blat.

The proposed technical solution involves the use of the national external transit regime, in accordance with the Customs Code of the Republic of Albania. This regime allows for the transit of goods from one customs point to another, passing through a territory outside the Albanian customs territory.

According to Beja, this solution has also been agreed upon with the Macedonian side.
The Director General of Customs informed that he will continue to update the public and business operators about any changes or further facilitation until the situation is fully normalized.
