Bank of Albania brings ‘Money Talks’ exhibition to Prishtina

TIRANA, February 16/ATA/ The historical exhibition of the Bank of Albania “Money Talks: 100 years of life and events, Bank of Albania (1925-2025)” was opened today in the premises of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, in Prishtina.

This is a cultural and educational initiative that brings to the public the history of Albanian money and the central bank throughout a century.

The exhibition coincides with the 100th anniversary of establishment of the Bank of Albania (1925) and the 100th anniversary of the issue of the first Albanian national currency (1926). The choice of Prishtina as a stop for this exhibition reflects the common history and deep institutional, cultural and economic ties between the Albanians.

In his remarks, Governor of the Bank of Albania Gent Sejko emphasized that the exhibition aims to show not only the institutional history of the Bank of Albania, but also the history of the everyday life of citizens: how they paid, how they saved, how they faced crises and how they built economic stability and well-being across generations. He noted that coins and banknotes, in addition to their exchange value, carry symbols, heritage and identity, reflecting the history of the state, the economy and public trust.

On his part, Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti stated that money is a symbol of trust, institutional order and the state itself, in addition to being a means of exchange.

While the Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo Ahmet Ismaili stated that this exhibition is not just a presentation of coins and banknotes, but a long narrative of our economic, social and institutional history.

“Its opening in Prishtina coincides with the week when we will mark the 18th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Kosovo. Therefore, the exhibition ‘Money Talks’ aims to raise public awareness of the role of money and central banks, as well as the significance of financial stability”, said Ismaili.

The exhibition is realized thanks to the cooperation with the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo and with the support of institutional and cultural partners, including the Italian Institute of Culture.

The exhibition will remain open until February 20 at the premises of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, in Prishtina. /p.s./
