Pirdeni: Judiciary will transition to a digital system by 2027

TIRANA, February 12 /ATA/- Minister of State for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption Adea Pirdeni spoke today about the efforts of the government to modernize the justice system even with creation of the digital infrastructure.

Minister Pirdeni underlined that, “There has been a clear need to modernize the entire digital system of the courts. And, with the budgetary support and EU IPA funds, there has already begun the process of establishing an integrated case system in courts and prosecution. We believe that within the deadlines set and agreed upon with the EC, i.e. 2027, we will have a system that can be put into operation so that the Albanian citizens can access digital justice within the current decade.”

“The European Commission has concrete expectations for the improvement of the infrastructure in the justice system, beginning from improvement of the conditions in the courtrooms, preserving the judicial archive while also ensuring the technological infrastructure that guarantees transparency during judicial processes,” Pirdeni said further on.

In this context, Pirdeni highlighted a plan already launched to meet the needs for the modernization of the infrastructure of the judicial system, a plan that has also been forwarded to the EC.

In this context, the minister underlined that it is already decided to provide suitable premises for the Court of Appeal.

Focusing on financial support for the justice system, Pirdeni said that the 2026 budget carries an additional financial support of 500 million lekë which since implementation of the justice reform, has reached up to 1.6 billion lekë.

Further on, the minister said that Albania is at a critical stage for advancing the EU accession negotiations.

During the event on international competition for the building of the Justice Center, which will be a new urban hub for justice system buildings, Pirdeni said that, “While we have opened 38 chapters in a record period of less than 13 months, we are now only 22 months away from the deadline of December 2027, the time at which we agreed with the EC to conclude the negotiation process.”

She added that along this journey, progress is not assessed by the initial ambition of reforms, but the standards in practice.

In this context, Minister Pirdeni underlined that the judicial infrastructure and the justice system play an important role as a necessary condition for the functioning of justice. /p.s./
