TIRANA, Feb 11 /ATA/ The official launch of the “National Single Window” (NSW) system marks a key milestone in the modernization and digitalization of trade and customs procedures in the country.
The ceremony, held at the General Directorate of Customs, signifies the beginning of the project, which is financed by a World Bank loan under the “Trade and Transport Facilitation in the Western Balkans” initiative.
The implementation follows the signing of the contract by the Ministry of Economy and Innovation on January 28, 2026. The project aims to standardize the procedures of state institutions involved in imports, exports, and transit, by establishing a unified digital platform for the exchange of documentation and data.
Fourteen institutions and agencies will be part of this system, including those responsible for issuing licenses, certificates, and authorizations for cross-border trade processes.
The meeting discussed the key phases of the system’s development, the implementation approach, and the roles of each participating institution and end user.
The presentation also covered the contractual framework, system objectives, project management methodologies, development stages—from specification and testing to piloting and final implementation—and the governance model along with organizational structures.
The General Directorate of Customs stressed the critical role of partner institutions, emphasizing that this strategic initiative will significantly enhance trade facilitation, promote greater transparency, and improve services for businesses and economic operators.
