TIRANA, February 4 /ATA/ – Nikolin Jaka, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated on Wednesday that it is essential to strengthen the Albanian consumer trust in the quality of products, emphasizing that food safety must not be compromised under any circumstances.
During his remarks at the National Council for European Integration, Jaka underscored that “food safety is a matter of national security.”
“In reference to this framework, the degree of responsibility for each of us is increased, whether in the sphere of policymaking or for the economic operators on the ground. The alignment of Albanian secondary legislation with that of the European Union has essentially been completed, given that 95% of the Albanian population demands it,” remarked Jaka.
“It is essential to carry out a thorough on-the-ground analysis. Agriculture and livestock represent some of the most pressing issues in Albania. While unfair competition may exist, we must ensure the protection of our farmers and local products. The livestock sector, especially within the dairy, meat, and other by-product industries, presents even more significant challenges,” he added.
Jaka stated that the price of milk in Albania is 50% higher than in any other country in the Balkans and Europe.
“In order to build trust with the Albanian consumer, we must have responsible institutions, excellent laboratories, and ensure that we do not dispute the results produced by our laboratories, while making no compromises on food safety,” Jaka emphasized.
