TIRANA, January 22 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that the Assembly has convened today in plenary session to ratify an act of goodwill in the service of peace, the country’s accession to the Board of Peace Charter.
“Today, this Assembly has convened to ratify an act of goodwill which Albania, first of all this ruling majority, is responsible for doing whenever the topic of peace is on the table and whenever there is every opportunity to contribute to peace”, said Rama.
He emphasized that the ruling majority has been a promoter of peace in the region for three consecutive mandates, even in cases where this approach has been misunderstood or negatively labeled.
“We, the Parliamentary majority of Albania, for three full mandates in a row, have made the country a mouthpiece and peace-builder in this troubled region, even when this has been seen or even appreciated as a betrayal. A label that, in fact, has been a definitive test of commitment to peace for many who have worked for peace in the history of this world,” said the prime minister.
Rama highlighted the fact that Albania has represented the commitment to peace at high international levels.
“We have elevated Albania, committed to peace, to the top of the OSCE and to the table of the United Nations Security Council, where we have upheld the dignity of our flag and country,” he emphasized.
Making a comparison with the past, Rama said that a decade ago, Albania was perceived internationally mainly for the negative news.
“A decade ago, this country was an island that appeared on the world’s radar only for bad news and Albanians in the world were seen as representatives of that island, dressed in black by the international media, some true and some false,” Rama said.
According to him, present-day Albania is a completely different reality.
“Today, that island where even the members of Parliament or the prime minister himself were counted as tourists whenever he returned from abroad, is a different Albania: a destination with 12 million tourists, with the airport of the highest increase in the number of passengers in Europe and, for several years in a row, the first in the region, leaving Belgrade, the historic airport of the Western Balkans, in second place,” Rama said. /gj.m/a.f/p.s./
