TIRANA, Jan 19 /ATA/ The Ministry of Health and Social Protection, through the Institute of Public Health, joins this year’s European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week to remind that prevention saves lives. This is an important moment to raise awareness about cervical cancer and the significance of early actions for women’s health.
Building on the experience of the National Cervical Cancer Screening Program, which is implemented by the Institute of Public Health, as well as international best practices, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has decided to expand the age range of women benefiting from the program in 2026, now including women aged 35-55.
This expansion aims to raise awareness and encourage the inclusion of women in the screening program, increase opportunities for early diagnosis of the disease, and reduce its long-term risks.
Cervical cancer is one of the cancers that can be nearly completely prevented through HPV vaccination and regular screening.
For more information on the National Screening Program and HPV vaccination, citizens can visit the Institute of Public Health’s website or contact their nearest health center.
