Water levels fall in flooded areas of northern Albania’s Shkodra region

TIRANA, Jan 16 /ATA/ – The situation in Albania’s northern Shkodra region is stable and is gradually improving, local authorities said on Friday, as water levels recede in previously flooded areas.

In an update, the Shkodra prefecture said water levels have fallen in the Dajç area, whereas the Obot road remains partially flooded, with water levels of around 20-30 cm, but levels are continuing to decline.

Authorities said residents in affected areas are still being transported by the Northern Infantry Regiment, using a high-clearance vehicle and five members of the Armed Forces.

Conditions remain stable and under control in the municipalities of Vau i Dejës, Malësi e Madhe, Pukë and Fushë Arrëz, with no emergencies reported.

According to data from the Lezhë Irrigation and Drainage Directorate, water levels at monitoring points remain below critical thresholds. The Drin River stood at 7.2 metres at Bahçallëk, while the Buna River was measured at 8.30 metres at Pazar and 6.40 metres at Dajç. Pumping stations in Velipojë are operating normally at full capacity, ensuring the management of inflows.

The Shkodra regional road authority reported no disruptions to road traffic. Drivers on mountainous routes are advised to use winter tyres and/or snow chains.
