TIRANA, Jan 8 /ATA/ – A large fire that broke out on Thursday afternoon at warehouse facilities in Tirana’s “5 Maji” market area has spread to a second hangar but is now under control and poses no risk to nearby homes, Deputy Mayor Anduela Ristani said.
Ristani told local media that the blaze intensified due to the large volume of flammable materials stored inside the warehouses but had not threatened surrounding residential areas.
“The fire spread because of the amount of material inside the warehouses and extended to a second hangar, but there is no danger of it reaching residential zones. Work is continuing to fully extinguish the fire,” she said.
Around 60 firefighters have been deployed in the operation and are working to contain all remaining hotspots.
Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored and urged residents to avoid the area to allow emergency services to operate without obstruction.
