Euro and US dollar lose ground against Lek

TIRANA, Dec 26 /ATA/ In the local foreign exchange market, during the last week of December, the euro and the US dollar lost ground against the lek, while the British pound and the Swiss franc gained points.

The Bank of Albania’s official rates show the US dollar dropping 0.47 lek to 81.75 lek from 82.22 lek earlier in the week, while the euro edged down 0.04 lek to 96.46 lek.

The British pound gradually gained ground over the weekend, trading at 110.49 lek compared to 110.41 lek on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Swiss franc strengthened during the week of December 22–26 by 0.33 lek, exchanging at 103.97 lek against 103.64 lek at the beginning of the week.

High euro inflows from returning emigrants ahead of the year-end holidays have strengthened the lek, while the Bank of Albania reports that the annual decline in the exchange rate is lower than in past years, with the euro down 2.1% compared to the same period last year.
