Koçiu: Interagency coordination to ease citizens’ movement, “e-Gate” launch set for next year

TIRANA, Dec 23 /ATA/ Minister of Interior, Albana Koçiu, conducted an official visit to the Port of Durrës, where she saw firsthand the measures implemented to manage traffic flows during the end-of-year festive period.
During the inspection, the Minister was accompanied by the Mayor of Durrës, Emiriana Sako, and the Director of the Port of Durrës, Liburn Aliu.
Ms Koçiu emphasised that the Port of Durrës remains the leading maritime transit hub by operational volume and that ensuring public safety, alongside the streamlining of procedures, continues to be a priority for the relevant institutions. She also highlighted the heightened readiness of the State Police, which have reinforced their on-site presence at border crossing points and increased the number of service counters when needed.
“The situation is constantly evolving, and our actions are adapted to traffic volumes and mobility dynamics. Strong inter-institutional coordination is in place, including the State Police, the Albanian Customs Administration and the Port Authority. All relevant bodies work in an integrated manner to facilitate the overall flow and to ensure the efficient provision of services at the service counters,” Ms Koçiu noted.
In this context, the Minister also underscored the importance of regional cooperation, noting that over the weekend she held discussions with her counterpart from Kosovo to coordinate operations at land border crossing points. Cross-border coordination likewise extends to crossings with Montenegro and North Macedonia. This coordinated approach is aimed at expediting procedures on both sides of the border, in the service of citizens.
Furthermore, Ms Koçiu announced that the Ports of Durrës and Sarandë will benefit from a significant investment starting at the beginning of next year, through the installation of electronic entry and exit gates, e-Gates, which will substantially enhance traffic flow and the provision of services to citizens.
Commenting on the challenges of urban traffic in cities like Durrës and Tirana, the Minister confirmed that all authorities remain fully prepared, with the objective of guaranteeing citizens a safe and tranquil festive season.
