Berisha: Today’s opposition protest could mark ‘turning point’

TIRANA, Dec 22 /ATA/ – Main opposition Democratic Party leader, Sali Berisha, urged other opposition forces to join a protest on Monday afternoon, saying “the rally is a decisive moment against Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government.”

Speaking at a news conference ahead of the planned demonstration, Berisha said the protest could mark a “major turning point” for the opposition and the country.

“I strongly believe that Tirana is boiling, Albania is boiling, and that today’s protest will mark a major turning point,” Berisha said, calling on supporters to view the demonstration as part of a broader campaign.

Berisha said the opposition would continue its actions until either the government is removed or the opposition itself is defeated, arguing that institutional avenues had been exhausted.

He accused Rama of undermining constitutional processes and blocking efforts by prosecutors, claims the government has previously rejected.

According to Berisha, the opposition initially sought to pursue its objectives through parliament before turning to street protests, after what he described as the loss of constitutional space for opposition action.
