Linda Rama: Leadership in new iCloud age

TIRANA, December 15 /ATA/ At the Qatar Leadership Center, Linda Rama, the wife of Prime Minister Edi Rama, said that present-day leadership faces a new global reality, where the main challenge is no longer the classic structures of power, but the complexity of modern life.

She made the statement during a “Spotlight” session of the Qatar Leadership Center, held in Doha on November 23, 2025.

According to her, technology is no longer simply a tool, but a form of power that penetrates into every dimension of human life.

“Big technology companies are increasingly present in our lives and, sometimes, it worries me, because they have a monopoly on us. It is called iCloud,” she emphasized.

Linda Rama emphasized that this reality challenges leadership in a fundamental way, as technology creates new forms of intrusion into privacy, work and the human body itself, making everything complex in a permanent way.

“Thanks to devices, they can enter our homes, our workplaces, our bodies,” she said, underlining that leadership must recognize and confront this reality.

Rama also took the opportunity to recall Albania of 1990, the last country in Eastern Europe to emerge from communism, due to extreme isolation.

She clearly remembers what Albanians were demanding at that historical moment.

“I remember two slogans, ‘freedom, democracy’ and ‘we love Albania like all of Europe,’” she said, emphasizing that society was clear about what it did not want, but not about what awaited it.

According to her, after the fall of the communist system, it was understood that not only of the citizens, but also of the new leadership was not prepared; it had no practical experience for such a radical transformation.

“They might have known theoretically, but practically no one knew what it meant for a communist country to leave one system and enter a completely different system,” Rama said, adding that the transition was experienced as a strong clash with everyday reality.

At the Qatar Leadership Center, Linda Rama also focused on her personal experience of the transition stage and how uncertainty and the lack of answers pushed her towards another path, away from Albania. She said that at first she looked for answers within the country, but without success.

The decision to study abroad, according to her, gave her a deeper understanding of what leadership represents in times of great transformation, both then and today.

“Whenever there is a time of great transformation, you are led by dreams, not by knowledge,” emphasized Linda Rama, adding that “leadership with dreams and passion is much stronger than leadership with knowledge.”

Finally, she connected this idea to personal and social motivation, seeing passion for change as the main driving force for continuous improvement. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./
