TIRANA, December 8/ATA/- For the first time, at Shkodra Hospital there were performed live two coronary interventions to open up narrowed or blocked sections of the artery, restoring blood flow to the heart.
The surgeons made use of the Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) which significantly reduces mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events by providing superior assessment of plaque morphology, vessel sizing, and stent placement.
The two operations were performed under the direction of Prof. Dr. Aurel Toma and Prof. Dr. Florim Cuculi, together with the team of cardiologists of Shkodra Regional Hospital.
Ministry of Health and Medical Sciences reported that these operations were performed on the sidelines of the conference “Shkodra PCI 2.0: Daily Work Dilemmas in Interventional Cardiology”, organized for the second consecutive year by the Cardiology Service at Shkodra Regional Hospital.
Attending the conference were about 80 well-known doctors from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia. /p.s./
