PM Rama: No rest in clearing illegal structures from public spaces

TIRANA, Dec 3 /ATA/ – Efforts to clear illegal structures from public spaces continue across Albania as part of preparations for the “Urban Renaissance 2.0” programme, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Wednesday.

Rama posted footage on social media showing the removal of unlicensed buildings, saying the operations would continue without pause.

The government has stepped up oversight of territorial development, tightened enforcement of construction permits and increased penalties for builders who breach regulations.

Authorities say citizens have reported 16,367 cases of violations through the “My Public Space” platform, with 12,534 cases resolved and 3,833 still under review.

Officials say clearing public areas is essential to improving public services and ensuring businesses comply with national standards across Albania, including but not limited to tourist zones.

The government head said a National Regulation is being drafted to set out the areas businesses will be legally allowed to use. The clearance operations, launched in July, are intended as a permanent, systematic crackdown rather than a temporary campaign.
