Meinl-Reisinger praises Albania’s exceptional progress in its process of reforms

TIRANA, Nov 25 /ATA/ Federal Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria Beate Meinl-Reisinger praises Albania’s exceptional progress in its process of reforms.

Meinl-Reisinger stated on Tuesday that relations between Austria and Albania have been closely connected throughout history, as well as through economic and cultural ties.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali, Meinl-Reisinger remarked that ‘this historical relationship is a bond that keeps our two states closely aligned.’
‘Austria was among the first countries to maintain a presence in Albania following the fall of communism, demonstrating our confidence in the country’s future. Today, we will also mark the 30th anniversary of our bilateral cooperation in the field of education, with a view to the future. This initiative provides high-quality education for the young people of Albania, and I am proud that Austria has been able to contribute to this effort,’ she added.

According to the Austrian minister, a fundamental driving force in the relations between the two countries is the economy.
Austria is one of our most important partners and among the leading investors, but I am confident that the potential is even greater. We see that the opportunities in Albania are very promising,’ Meinl-Reisinger continued.

Minister Meinl-Reisinger also addressed the reform process on the path to EU accession, describing it as a highly significant step, as it concerns a system of values and rules grounded in the rule of law.
“‘Albania, demonstrating significant ambition and dedication, is meeting the established conditions, and Austria assures its continued support. It is truly remarkable to witness Albania’s achievements in recent years. While many doubted the country and its reform process, it has made exceptional progress, as recognised by the European Commission,’ Meinl-Reisinger stated.

“‘Austria has supported countries seeking EU integration. This has not been an act of charity, but rather in the interest of both the EU and Austria. Given the current geopolitical situation, we recognise the need for a strong Europe, founded on a shared understanding of common values,’ Meinl-Reisinger said.

Minister Meinl-Reisinger added: ‘Austria remains a reliable partner for countries aspiring to join the EU, and the entire process can often seem prolonged, highly technical, with many believing that something is being lost. We must find a way to reach people’s hearts. Citizens in your countries need to feel now what the benefits are. The SEPA agreement brings advantages for companies and citizens in Albania, as do the roaming charges that will be scrapped. Everyone will live in a space where roaming costs are a thing of the past.’”
