TIRANA, Nov 17 /ATA/ – The Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu said on Monday that the situation at the Drin River cascade, including the Vau i Dejës hydropower plant, is under control amid heavy rainfall, with emergency forces and equipment deployed across the northern Albanian region.
In a statement during a visit to the Vau i Dejës plant, Vengu said authorities had been managing water reserves and inflows effectively, and that technical teams had been monitoring hydro-meteorological forecasts for a week to prevent sudden discharges.
“We are optimistic that we will continue to manage the situation properly in the coming hours,” he said, noting close coordination with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.
In Shkodër, a flood-prone area, inspections are ongoing, with the armed forces and local authorities positioned to respond.
Shkodër Mayor Benet Beci said precautionary measures had been implemented on time, with key drainage channels cleared and excavators stationed at critical points.
Vengu added that inspections will continue in Bërdicë and Obot, two areas historically at high risk of flooding.
