TIRANA, Nov 14 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Friday that the government is working on the recognition of pensions with Greece, describing it as an important step for Albanians who have worked abroad.
During a hearing with residents of Unit No. 2 in the capital, Rama explained that the recognition of pensions is a major issue for all those who have worked abroad, particularly in Greece.
Rama: “When they return to Albania and check their pension, many run into difficulties, as our pension system is weaker due to the lack of contributors.”
He added that this creates a significant gap, as the current pension fund relies mainly on those who are actively working and paying social contributions.
Rama highlighted that pension recognition with Italy has been completed, and similar arrangements are now in progress with Greece.
“The main challenge is the recognition of work years in Greece, which constitutes the final piece of the puzzle. This issue is particularly complex due to the scale involved, as the number of Albanians working in Greece is significantly larger than in Italy. We have initiated the process with Greece, established dedicated working groups for discussions, and I remain confident that we will successfully reach an agreement,” stated Rama.
