PM Rama pledges monthly pension increase from January 2026

TIRANA, Nov 4 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Tuesday that his government will increase pensions a monthly basis from January 2026, in addition to the usual annual indexation, as the government submitted its 2026 draft budget to parliament.

In a video message, Rama said pensioners would receive a year-end bonus in December before monthly rises start next year.

“As promised, this mandate will be the mandate of annual pension increases,” he said.

Rama said the move was possible thanks to stronger economic stability, allowing the government to gradually raise pensions across all categories over the coming years.

Under the plan, by the end of the government’s current term in office, average urban pensions with full working years are set to rise to 40,000 lek from 27,350 lek, while partial urban pensions will increase to 22,000 lek from 15,850. Rural pensions will rise to 18,000 lek from 11,500, family pensions to 18,000 lek from 11,400, and disability pensions to 30,000 lek from 20,000.

Starting January 2026, monthly increases will amount to 1,800 lek for full urban pensions, 800 lek for partial urban, 1,000 lek for rural, 700 lek for family, and 600 lek for disability pensions, Rama said.

He added that these increments would double in 2027, triple in 2028 and quadruple in 2029, aiming to meet the government’s previously announced targets.
