TIRANA, Nov 4 /ATA/ The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, stated today from Brussels that Albania has made unprecedented progress on its path toward the European Union.
Kallas and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos held a joint press conference today to discuss the newly released progress report on candidate countries, including Albania.
In her remarks, Kallas stated that she considers Albania’s EU membership attainable by 2030.
“Enlargement continues to be a political priority and, above all, a geopolitical investment. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and recent political developments make the enlargement process particularly important,” she said.
Kallas emphasized that there will be no shortcuts, as the membership process is based on merit.
“It is quite realistic to have several new member states by 2030, including Albania, Moldova, Montenegro, and Ukraine,” she said.
Kallas further added, “We also need to work with other countries, such as Kosovo and Turkey.”
“Albania has made unprecedented progress,” she continued.
“The enlargement process in Kosovo and Serbia has been slowed due to conflicts between them,” Kallas also noted.
