Berisha: Albanians await 16 years for a trial

TIRANA, October 29/ATA/ Chairman of the Democratic Party in opposition Sali Berisha spoke today about the justice system in the country, while pointing at the fact that Albanians are now awaiting 16 years for a trial. And this, according to him, was confirmed by the heads of justice institutions in the Assembly.

Speaking about the report of the heads of justice institutions in the Assembly, Berisha said that, “Today, there are indisputable data that prove the complete failure and collapse of that system”.

“Those who supported this reform are now trying with slander, deception and various forms to cover up the terrible failure. They try to cover up the fact that there is a country in the world where there are required 1200 days to disclose a court decision. I congratulate the heads of justice institutions who had the courage to tell the Albanians the truth. They had the courage in the Parliament to confirm that Albanians are now awaiting 16 years for a trial and that, from one year to the next, this deadline has been reduced by 16 days”, said Berisha.

Meanwhile, according to him, “Corruption is at least 3 to 5 times higher and files are closed in exchange for bribes”.

Referring to the US State Department reports for 2008-2009, Berisha said that, “In these 2 years, the anti-corruption task force took 630 officials to court and convicted them”.

“Now, in two years, according to the SPAK and Prosecutor General’s report, there have been convicted a total of 199 people for corruption, and some of them are also for organized crime. So, three times less. The immunity of deputy prime ministers has also been lifted, even in 2009, and they have gone to court. But, before there was a law and according to that law no minister could head contracting authorities. By law, it was forbidden”, Berisha added. /r.e/a.f/p.s./
