Albania’s urban transformation: PM Rama meets students, professors from ETH Zurich

TIRANA, Oct 27 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama hosted Monday a group of students and professors from the Newrope Chair at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, following a five-day study tour across Albania.

The delegation visited coastal cities, construction sites, and evolving landscapes, gaining firsthand insight into the country’s ongoing urban transformation.

During meeting at the Center for Openness and Dialogue (COD) in Tirana, the students and professors shared their observations, questions, and reflections on Albania’s current development, the balance between freedom and regulation, and the vision guiding the nation’s ongoing changes.

The meeting evolved into an open exchange of ideas with Prime Minister Rama, focusing on architecture, urban planning, and the intricate relationship between political vision and spatial design. This discussion marked the conclusion of their study trip titled “Freedom at the End of History”, which explored how Albania’s continuous transformation is creating new spatial and social realities, and the role architecture can play in shaping them.

The Newrope Chair at ETH Zurich is a center for Architecture and Urban Transformation within the Department of Architecture, specializing in spatial design and social innovation.

Through its “Design in Dialogue” approach, the Chair investigates Europe as a fragmented yet interconnected territory, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration to address contemporary urban and societal challenges.
