Rama: No reception center for illegal migrants, never in Albania

TIRANA, October 21/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama is in London to participate in the proceedings of the annual Berlin Process summit, the edition of which this year is being held in the United Kingdom, with the presence of heads of government, high-level representatives of the EU and Berlin Process partner countries, international financial institutions and regional organizations involved in the process.

Today, the prime minister was part of the Chatham House panel, the international affairs think tank, on the topic: “The Western Balkans and the European Union”, a discussion on the challenges of each of the Western Balkan countries on the path towards EU membership.

During his speech, Prime Minister Edi Rama was asked by journalists about building reception centers for illegal migrants in Albania.

Rama replied, “Never there will be built such centers in Albania”.

The head of government also focused on the struggle against illegal migration and cooperation with Great Britain, which according to Rama has functioned fantastically.

“It has been a long struggle waged together with several British prime ministers. Most recently, we worked with Rishi Sunak and continued the efforts with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and with the Labor government. So, it is a systemic confrontation with trafficking of people. It is not about people who come here freely, but about people who are trafficked and this is a fundamental difference,” said Rama.

Rama was also asked about the debate with British MP Nigel Farage, regarding illegal Albanian migrants in Great Britain.

“I do not see any problem when it comes to cooperation with anyone; in the end I believe that Farage is not the problem. Farage is a mirror of the problems that lie elsewhere, this is my answer. When it comes to these migrant centers and similar ones, I say again, never in Albania,” Rama said. /m.q/r.e/a.f/p.s./
