TIRANA, Oct 15 /ATA/ – A new modular pop-up library has opened in the Albanian capital, drawing attention from residents -particularly young people – since its launch earlier this month.
Named “Tirana Moons”, the temporary installation is designed using prefabricated wooden structures with circular forms and soft lighting that resemble the moon. The space was stocked with books donated by Kosovo-based bookstore Libraria Dukagjini, as well as by architects involved in urban development projects in Tirana.
Located in Tirana’s Mother Teresa Square, the open-air structure blends elements of architecture, art, and culture. Visitors are invited to read on-site, though the books are not available for borrowing.
The project was designed by Austrian architect Chris Precht, known for his nature-inspired work. The library has attracted interest from both students and older residents seeking a peaceful environment in the city.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, on Thursday described Tirana Moons as “an oasis where literature, art, architecture, and nature merge to bring inspiration and calm to the heart of the city.”
The circular wooden installation occupies a portion of what is usually car-dominated public space, offering a retreat for pedestrians, readers, and passersby.
