TIRANA, October 6 /ATA/ “We are deeply shocked and saddened by today’s fatal shooting inside the Appellate Court in Tirana, which claimed the life of judge Astrit Kalaja and left two others injured,” said the OSCE in its reaction.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Judge Kalaja’s family and colleagues, and wish a speedy recovery to those who were wounded.
The OSCE Presence in Albania unequivocally condemns this violent act. Attacks on judges are a direct attack on the rule of law and democratic institutions.
While the full circumstances of the attack are still under investigation, we welcome the swift reaction of the law enforcement in apprehending the suspect and emphasize the importance of ensuring that justice is served through a thorough and prompt legal process.
The Presence stands in solidarity with Albania’s judicial community and remains committed to supporting efforts that strengthen the security and independence of the judiciary”, said the OSCE in its reaction.
