TIRANA, September 29 /ATA/ During the recent years, Divjaka-Karavasta National Park has become a birdwatching tourism destination. Besides the flamingos, there are the pelicans that dominate.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared in the social media today footage from the pelican spectacle over Karavasta lagoon.
Lagoon birdwatching tourism is now becoming a real tourist movement for our country as well.
Remote observation from the observation center specially built in Divjaka-Karavasta park offers a unique experience.
The main “character” of the lagoon, the Dalmatian pelican impresses tourists with its white, orange and gray colors, while its average weight of 11.5 kilograms makes it the heaviest bird of its kind in the world.
The Karavasta lagoon is among the lagoons of significance for migratory species and as a habitat for over 20,000 wintering birds.
During the summer, the lagoon is also frequented by other birds. It is known for its large colony of Dalmatian pelicans, the only coastal nesting site in Albania.
The ban on hunting for a certain period has led to a significant increase in the colony of pelicans, and even flamingos, which were very rare. /k.s/j.p/p.s./
