Rama: Campaign to clear public spaces continues apace

TIRANA, Sept 23 /ATA/ Clearing public spaces of unauthorized constructions sets the stage for the implementation of the “Urban Renaissance 2.0” program, aimed at reinstating legitimacy across the territory and driving development within local communities.

Designed as a systematic on-the-ground intervention rather than a temporary action, this initiative, which began implementation in July, continues to be a priority across the entire country.

On Tuesday Prime Minister Edi Rama posted additional videos on social media showing the removal of metal structures installed by private parties in breach of the law.

“We are moving forward,” Rama said, noting that the “My Public Space” platform is now accessible to citizens for reporting illegal constructions.

The new Penal Code, currently under public consultation, introduces tougher sanctions to tackle the problem of unauthorized building.

At the same time, a new National Regulation will be introduced to support private entities by legally specifying the areas that businesses are permitted to use.

Prime Minister Rama previously announced that “for every chair placed in the restricted space, the business must contribute a tree to the Green Fund, which will be launched by the new government.”

To this end, the portal “Hapësiraimepublike.gov.al” has been made available to citizens who wish to report abusive cases. To date, 11,713 cases have been reported through this portal, of which 8,444 have been resolved, while 3,269 are currently under review.
