TIRANA, Sept 15 /ATA/ – Albania’s High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) has launched the procedures to choose a new head of the Special Anti-Corruption and Anti-Crime Prosecution Structure (SPAK) (SPAK), as the mandate of current chief Altin Dumani nears its end.
The agenda for the Council’s September 17 meeting includes the approval of a draft decision declaring the SPAK leadership post officially vacant.
The session will be held in the Council’s meeting hall and attended by representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office, Ministry of Justice, the EU-funded EURALIUS and EU4Justice projects, as well as the U.S.-supported OPDAT program. Media representatives are also expected to attend.
Dumani was appointed SPAK chief in December 2022 and has served a three-year term. He succeeded Arben Kraja in the role.
A veteran of Albania’s justice system, Dumani began his career in 1999 as a judicial police officer in Saranda and later served as chief prosecutor in Tropoja.
SPAK was established in December 2019 as part of Albania’s landmark judicial reform. The office consists of eight prosecutors who each serve a nine-year term. The head of SPAK is elected for a three-year term without the possibility of reappointment.
