TIRANA, Sept 12 /ATA/ Anuela Ristani, acting mayor of Tirana, underscored the importance of the 2015 territorial reform in her remarks at the “Local Governments and Decentralization Reforms” conference, emphasizing its role in improving local governance and strengthening the capital’s budget.
Ristani highlighted that the swift transformations taking place in Albania are tangible, boosting Tirana’s prominence on the international stage.
“The 2015 territorial reform represented a significant transformation. It changed the way local governance was perceived, bringing to life an idea that had until then remained purely theoretical. With 365 municipalities, it would have been almost impossible to accomplish much in a country with less than 3 million people. Now, Tirana has the capacity to undertake major projects and improve the living standards of its residents. This advancement is a result of decentralization, which has allowed us to better manage services and create new sources of funding,” she explained.
Ristani expressed that thanks to the investments made, Tirana has today become a city recognized internationally.
“Tirana has gone from an unknown city in 1995 to an internationally recognized destination. This is something we couldn’t have imagined 30 years ago. But now, we can proudly say: You know Tirana, and I’m telling you that if you spend a weekend here, no one will give you strange looks,” said Ristani.
