New Assembly met with 72 new MPs in first session

TIRANA, September 12 /ATA/ After the general elections of May 11, the new Assembly met today and held the first session in line with the decree of the President of the Republic.

Vlora region MP of the Socialist Party Vasil Llajo, as the oldest MP, was chosen to chair the session.

Attending the session were ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps, constitutional institutions, religious communities, etc.

In his opening remarks, MP Llajo appreciated the session as a solemn moment because, as he put it, “Here begins a fresh chapter of the next 4 years where the history of our country will be written”.

Llajo stated that, “Every law, every reform, every decision must have in focus the citizen and his dignity”.

“There will always be divisions in this hall because this is the role of a Parliament; the ruling-majority governs, the opposition controls and criticizes. But, this division is healthy for democracy. We should build a new culture, that of cooperation on major national issues. We should not be afraid to cooperate when it comes to the country’s interest, on the contrary, we should be ashamed if we fail to do so. Let us be divided during debates, but let us be united in goals. This is the Assembly that the entire Albanian society deserves”, said Llajo.

Then, there was formed the temporary secretariat of the Assembly composed of three young MPs: Mariana Koçeku, Zegjine Çaushi, Klodiana Çapja. But, the DP MP Çapja did not take her seat.

Further on, Head of the SP Parliamentary group Taulant Balla proposed the names of the MPs who will compose the temporary commission for the verification of mandates, Milva Ekonomi, Olsi Komici, Aulona Bylykbashi, Hatixhe Konomi, Elton Koreshi and Arkend Balla.

Further on, the Assembly approved the composition of the commission. While the democrat MPs blocked the rostrum, Llajo closed the session and announced that the coming session will be held on the afternoon at 17:00. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./
