Kosovo President: Utmost commitment to resume Strategic Dialogue with U.S.

PRISHTINA, Sept 12 /ATA/ – Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has expressed deep regret and concern over the U.S. decision to indefinitely suspend the Strategic Dialogue between Kosovo and the United States – a key mechanism of bilateral cooperation.

In a statement on Friday, Osmani recalled that the initiative for the Strategic Dialogue was first proposed by her in 2021 and reconfirmed in 2022 through diplomatic channels and meetings with U.S. officials. The dialogue was officially launched in January 2025, following joint efforts by the Presidency and the U.S. State Department.

Osmani emphasized that Kosovo’s statehood is founded on an “unbreakable friendship” with the United States, describing the relationship as existential to Kosovo’s national identity.

She called for political unity in safeguarding this strategic alliance, noting that “the people of Kosovo know that their freedom became reality with the decisive support of the United States.”

The head of state reaffirmed her continued commitment to working closely with the U.S. on regional peace, democratic development, Euro-Atlantic integration, and the protection of Kosovo’s sovereignty and constitutional order.

“The Strategic Dialogue is a vital mechanism of our cooperation,” Osmani said, pledging maximum engagement to ensure its swift resumption, calling the U.S. partnership “not only a guarantee for the present, but our most reliable compass for the future.”
