TIRANA, September 12 /ATA/ Democratic Party paid homage today to the champion of democracy Azem Hajdari who was assassinated 27 years ago near the former headquarters of the Democratic Party.
Attending the commemoration event at Azem Hajdari memorial, were his family members, leader of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha and Democrat MPs.
They laid wreaths of flowers at the memorial in his honor.
In his speech, Berisha said that today the pluralism for which the liberating students fought in 1990 has been suppressed.
“The ideals of Azem Hajdari are more appealing today than ever since 1990 until now, since Albania has today plunged into the ugliest form of dictatorship, that of drugs, crime, and theft of Albanians,” Berisha said.
Berisha added that the Democratic Party and the Democrats will fight for the restore of the free vote.
Azem Hajdari was assassinated near the former headquarters of the Democratic Party in Tirana on September 12, 1998, at the age of 35. Hajdari was one of the first dissidents against the communist regime and the leader of the December 1990 Student Movement. He was one of the founders of the Democratic Party, the first opposition party in the country after the communist dictatorship. /m.q/j.p/p.s./
