TIRANA, Sept 4 /ATA/ Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja invited all stakeholders within the justice system to contribute to the development of the new Penal Code draft.
In a press briefing after the second roundtable on the technical presentation of the new Criminal Code draft, Manja was questioned regarding the criticisms raised by the Chief Prosecutor.
Manja emphasized that the call for contributions is extended to all relevant stakeholders, adding that a series of consultative roundtables with justice system institutions have been scheduled.
“I urge justice institutions to participate in the public consultation to improve the draft, noting that any changes to the Criminal Code will be matched by updates to the Code of Criminal Proceedings,” he said.
Manja stated that amendments to the Code of Criminal Proceedings will be made to incorporate several EU directives, as part of meeting the interim benchmarks in the negotiation process. He emphasized that his invitation is extended not only to the Chief Prosecutor but to all stakeholders within the justice system to actively participate, highlighting that while they are the enforcers of the law, they also play a crucial role in the legislative process of the country.
Manja said that “their contribution as practitioners is welcomed, essential, and highly important.”
Therefore, the minister added, “we have planned several roundtables with the justice system institutions.”
