BoA: Consumer loan interest rates decline in H1 2025

TIRANA, Sept 3 /ATA/  – Consumer loan interest rates in Albania declined in the first half of 2025, driven by high market liquidity and the easing of the key interest rate for the local currency, the central bank said on Wednesday.

According to the Bank of Albania, the average interest rate on loans up to 200,000 lek dropped to 62.2% from 70.9% in the second half of 2024.

For overdrafts of the same amount, the interest rate fell to 13.7%, down from 13.9% a year earlier. The interest rate on credit cards also decreased slightly, to 20.3%, compared to 20.5% in H2 2024.

However, for installment loans ranging from 200,000 to 600,000 lek, the average interest rate rose slightly to 11.2%, from 11% previously.

The central bank’s Supervisory Council, in its most recent meeting, left the key interest rate unchanged at 2.5%. The overnight deposit rate was also held at 1.5%, while the overnight lending rate remained at 3.5%.
