Special Court upholds Ilir Meta remains in prison

TIRANA, August 13/ATA/ The Special Court of the First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime decided today not to change the security measure against Ilir Meta, leaving the “prison arrest” in force.

Special Judge Erjon Çela decided that the president of the Freedom Party will continue to remain in detention.

Meta had requested to be released from the cell with the argument that there is no longer any risk of evidence being destroyed since the investigation against him has been closed and the file has been sent for trial.

On August 4, SPAK officially communicated to Ilir Meta the closure of the investigations and sending of the file for trial.

Meta is accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets, for matters related to the lobbying file in the US and the CEZ-DIA affair.

He was arrested on October 21, 2024 and has been in detention with “prison arrest” since that moment. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./
