TIRANA, July 31 – Main opposition Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha stated on Thursday that every criminal complaint filed by the opposition over alleged electoral crimes in May 11 parliamentary elections was backed by solid evidence, rejecting claims by the head of Albania’s Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution (SPAK), Altin Dumani, that some vote-buying complaints lacked sufficient evidence.
In a press statement, Berisha called Dumani a “political criminal,” accusing him of being complicit in what he referred to as the May 11 electoral farce.
“Not a single complaint has been submitted without official and irrefutable evidence,” Berisha said. “Every day I present facts – I’ve barely shared a tenth of what we have.”
Berisha further alleged that Dumani was protecting special judge Irena Gjoka, whom he accuses of legal misconduct. According to Berisha, “Dumani is fabricating unnamed criminal cases as a diversion tactic to shield Gjoka from prosecution.”
“He’s launching cases with no named defendant, only to later claim investigations are underway. This is a deliberate attempt to cover up serious judicial wrongdoing,” Berisha asserted, suggesting such tactics could involve false claims of identity theft or fabricated legal scenarios.
