PM Rama: Albania to use advanced drone and technology to monitor and protect territory

TIRANA, July 21 /ATA/ – Albania is preparing to roll out a structured drone surveillance system to monitor its territory, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Monday, describing the move as a key step toward employing technology to protect public spaces from illegal private occupation.

Responding to citizen questions on social media about the government’s recent push to clear public spaces in cities across Albania, the Premier said the initiative will go beyond traditional inspections.

“This isn’t just a matter of inspectors on the ground – we’re working to elevate territorial oversight to a new level through technology,” he said.

Rama confirmed that authorities are close to implementing the new system and have already begun technological monitoring of road traffic through a centralized center. Surveillance of schools has also been included in the broader plan.

“We are now in the process of launching structured drone monitoring, allowing us to track in real time what happens across the territory,” Rama said.

He added that drone footage will be cross-referenced with field inspector reports to ensure greater accountability and to prevent backsliding on recent progress.
