PRISTINA, July 19 /ATA/ The 49th attempt to establish the ninth legislature of the Kosovo Assembly ended in failure once more. This was due to the continued inability to form the Secret Ballot Committee, with only 50 deputies voting in its favour, as had happened in previous attempts.
The chair of the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly, Avni Dehari, announced that the next session is slated for Monday at 11:00 a.m.
“50 deputies voted in favour, none against, and no abstentions. Today’s session is now concluded and will resume on July 21 at 11:00 a.m.,” he stated.
The attempts made so far to form the new legislature have failed, as the Vetëvendosje, Guxo, and Alternativa coalition has fallen short of the votes needed to elect a new Speaker of the Assembly.
Albulena Haxhiu has been unable to secure the necessary support in six open-ballot votes, while efforts to establish a committee for a secret ballot have likewise not succeeded.
President Vjosa Osmani emphasized that if the Kosovo Assembly is not constituted by July 26, as mandated by the Constitutional Court, deputies should face legal consequences.
She emphasized that preparations are underway for a constitutional interpretation regarding the political crisis, and if the institutions are not formed over the weekend, the matter will be submitted to the country’s highest legal authority at the beginning of next week, KosovaPress reports.
