TIRANA, July 10 /ATA/ Shkodra Mayor Benet Beci announced today the successful completion of the second phase of the Buna Riverbed cleanup near the Dajlani area.
Beci hailed the operation as a significant step ushering in a new chapter for this valuable natural resource.
“After five decades, the Buna River flows freely once again within its natural course. I extend my thanks to all the institutions involved from the beginning of this effort, with special appreciation for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, led by Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu,” Beci wrote in a social media post.
The Mayor of Shkodra stated that the field teams demonstrated outstanding professionalism and dedication, under the stewardship of Lieutenant Colonels Shkumbin Gjana and Egert Kuka, with operational support from Colonel Shkëlzen Mhillaj, who oversaw the successful dismantling of the metal structure (Dajlani) in the Buna River.
Beci emphasized that the operation represents more than just a technical success—it marks a significant step forward in environmental protection and the restoration of the Buna River’s natural course, a vital resource for both the city and the wider region.
The Municipality of Shkodër explained that the first phase of the cleanup involved the removal of nets and wooden installations, while the second phase targeted the extraction of metal components that demanded more specialized work.
