Former MP Ervin Salianji released from prison

TIRANA, July 8 /ATA/ – A district court in Fier has conditionally released former Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji from prison following a positive report from probation services and approval from the case prosecutor on Tuesday.

Salianji had served two-thirds of his sentence for false reporting in the well-known “Babale” case and had three months remaining.

Salianji was arrested on September 27, 2024, after alleging the involvement of the brother of former Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj in drug trafficking.

His lawyer, Ledio Braho, described the sentence as political and stated Salianji would be released within the day.

Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha also reacted, calling the sentence political and claiming it aimed to silence the truth about traffickers connected to the government.
