TIRANA, June 23 /ATA/ – The acclaimed political comedy Negotiating Peace, written by Kosovar playwright Jeton Neziraj and directed by Blerta Neziraj, was successfully staged in Milan at Teatro Out Off, as part of the international LIFE 2025 – Theatre Arts Media Festival.
The performance, marked by sharp satire and powerful delivery, explores the inner workings of peace negotiations in post-conflict regions. Through absurdist humor and biting critique, the play questions what truly unfolds behind closed diplomatic doors and examines the uneasy mix of fear, hope, and political theater that surrounds peace processes.
Presented across several European cities—including Hamburg, Münster, Leipzig, Zagreb, Oslo, Prague, Florence, and Cividale del Friuli—the play has been praised for its timely relevance and bold approach to complex geopolitical issues. Milan’s staging was met with strong audience engagement and critical interest.
Negotiating Peace takes inspiration from real-world conflicts and negotiations, including those in Kosovo, Ukraine, the Middle East, and Northern Ireland. Its universal themes and unflinching tone challenge conventional narratives and prompt audiences to reflect on the authenticity, motivations, and limitations of modern diplomacy.
In April, Albanian actress Ema Andrea received the prestigious Italian Premio Adelaide Ristori 2025 award for her performance in the play—an acknowledgment of the emotional range and nuance she brought to a role shaped by global political dynamics.
The play is a production of Qendra Multimedia, known for its provocative, socially engaged theater that tackles pressing issues of identity, politics, and conflict in Southeast Europe and beyond.
