“e-Legislation”, Gonzato: A major step forward in enhancing transparency and accountability

TIRANA, June 23 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ The Ambassador of the European Union Delegation in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, stated today that Albania has reached a pivotal moment, as all negotiation clusters are expected to be opened this year.

Ambassador Gonzato considered this an opportunity for Albania to modernize its institutions and strengthen democracy.
At the event organized by the Assembly of Albania to launch the e-Legislation portal, Ambassador Silvio Gonzato highlighted the role of the EU Delegation in supporting Albania throughout this process.
“As Albania continues to further advance in the EU accession process, the EU will support the Parliament with a new EU4Democracy project focused on strengthening governance and transparency; enhancing EU integration mechanisms; and Empowering civil society and media. In addition to the E-legislation platform, these measures will contribute to enhance the Parliament’s transparency, accountability, integrity and effectiveness. To achieve this, though, the Assembly also needs financial autonomy by having its own budget. This is key to ensuring its independence and the capacity to assess the impact of legislation,” said EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato at the launching ceremony.
Ambassador Silvio Gonzato commended the Albanian Parliament’s commitment to upholding higher ethical standards, addressing various issues such as the Code of Ethics for Members of Parliament and enhancing administrative capacities.
