TIRANA, June 13 /ATA/ The Ministry of Justice convened a meeting on Friday with justice institutions and international partners as part of the roundtable discussion entitled “Intersectoral Justice Strategy 2024-2030: Achievements and Challenges in its Implementation within the Context of European Integration.”

In his remarks at the meeting, the OSCE Ambassador to Albania, Michel Tarran, stated that the collaboration between domestic and international stakeholders is crucial in reforming the country’s justice system.

Tarran emphasized that justice must be more accessible to citizens by enhancing transparency in the delivery of services.
The ambassador further remarked that the adopted strategy offers a comprehensive framework outlining the essential subsequent steps required for the transformation of the justice system in Albania in line with European Union standards.

He emphasized that the presence of the OSCE in Albania welcomes and supports the country’s ambitious objectives for the justice sector.

“The strategy represents a pivotal moment aimed at aligning Albania’s justice system with EU standards. It is built upon previous strategic documents and reflects the guiding framework. The strategy provides a clear structure to direct the next steps toward transformation. The presence of the OSCE in Albania welcomes these ambitious goals contained within the reforms, which are necessary and timely for the consolidation of the justice system,” he stated.
The ambassador described the current phase of the justice reform as being focused on its efficiency and independence as a sector.

He emphasized the need to strengthen transparency toward the public regarding the justice services provided to Albanian citizens.

“This phase of the justice reform focuses on improving efficiency and independence. The objective is to consolidate the legal framework by clearing backlog of unresolved cases, strengthening accountability, and enhancing transparency mechanisms in service delivery and bring justice closer to the citizens,” he stated.

Tarran stated that the measures taken to implement new information technologies in the justice sector are crucial for its efficiency.
“The measures related to the adoption of advanced information technologies, the enhancement of national judicial statistics, and the development and implementation of integrated case management systems represent milestones that will contribute to improving the efficiency of the justice system.”

Tarran emphasized that the successful implementation of these reforms requires adequate funding, as well as concrete actions from all involved parties.
Tarran said: “Successful implementation will require co-ordinated efforts, adequate funding, and active stakeholder participation to achieve the desired outcomes. Continuous collaboration with national and international partners, including civil society and European institutions, is vital for the Strategy’s effective implementation”.
